Granum United Church
Mission Statement
Granum United Church believes that we are called to share God’s love and express God’s will for the world through devotion, obedience, and service.
We come to the church at 9:30 A.M hearing the spiritual music from outside our church every Sunday morning. We feel we always take something positive away with us on Sunday morning that touches our lives on a personal level and feeling God’s connection. Some of our members are three-generation families with one being four-generation; others are seniors worshipping in the same building they did as children; others are newcomers and adherents. We have welcomed members from our congregations as well as strangers who have come through our doors to worship. The new faces have brought life to our church. We take care of each other without being judgmental.
We are dedicated to having a Sunday School once per month. The children bring great joy and hope to all. Our seniors enjoy the interaction with the children and the children respond very positively to the seniors. It is heartwarming to hear little ones telling a story to the seniors about their farm or their farm or their favorite animal. Rev. MiYeon Kim reads the fun Bible Story to our children and dances with them singing joyful children’s songs during the children’s worship time. We all love seeing this.
We are blessed to have musical talent from four pianists. We love singing during worship time. Rev. MiYeon Kim who was one of the choir soloists of her university sings the hymns beautifully during the worship service.
We have communion following the liturgical season. At the communion table, we acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the host and all our guests. The meal uses the symbols of small pieces of bread and a taste of wine or juice to remind us of Jesus’ last supper with his followers and of God’s enduring love. Therefore, everyone including children is welcome at the table of Jesus Christ.
We run our church on volunteers and those who offer their services on a gift-in-kind basis. The music, the custodial, the yard work, even the maintenance work are all done by our great people. We have coffee and lunch on the last Sunday of every month. This is also on a volunteer rotating basis. There is always more lunch than we need, and it is always offered to our members to take home.
Our community is important to us and living our faith in outreach to people of the hamlet is one of our mandates. We have the only hall in the hamlet and it is used for community events. Currently, a walking group utilizes it three times a week in the winter months to walk and socialize there. It has also been used for bridal and baby showers, craft sales, and other activities.
We also participate in outreach projects when a need arises. Examples are mitten and sock trees to donate to the needy, collecting food for the local food bank, and anonymous donations of gifts card for people in need. We’ve had members donate time to the local cemetery for a general clean-up and cleaning up of graves for past congregation members. When the community wanted bells rung on November 11, we did that from our church where they could be heard all around town.
We have a unique group of people, warm and friendly who are also loyal and supportive. We believe that God is with us on our journey to stay alive; we believe that God is telling us anything is possible when we put our mind to it. It is true we have challenges but our trials and difficult times teach us the importance of God’s glory and the power of the presence of God. We are thankful for God’s love we will carry on and march forward.

History
In 1874 the northwest Mounted Police arrived at Fort Macleod. Missions for the Anglican and Methodist churches followed soon after. With the creation of the United Church of Canada (Macleod), Methodist Church became the United Church later renamed Trinity United Church. The current structure was built in 1966. An adjoining hall, built-in 1993, features a gymnasium, stage, and certified kitchen. The manse, a modern bungalow, was built in 1980
Who we are
We are a vibrant and dedicated community of faith practicing love rooted in the example of Jesus. Our worship services are intended to help members of our community find meaning and feel closer to God. We are so privileged to have a dedicated choir. Many extra hours of practice have gone into special presentations such cantatas, Christmas Carol Festivals, and “A History of the Hymns” production.
Worship services are held on Sunday morning at 11 AM and we welcome everyone – seekers, visitors, and newcomers.
Services include a children’s time during worship when the children enjoy a bible story, dancing, and singing with Rev. Kim. The adults enjoy this time as much as the children do! From there, the children go to Sunday School to learn discipleship through Bible study, prayers, crafts, games, and more.
We have an active woman’s group, Women in Fellowship(WIF). WIF meets monthly except for July and August. Their meetings involve various activities such as Bible study and hosting an early December Ladies Luncheon for all ladies of the church.
We are a congregation committed to living our faith in pastoral care and outreach. We offer lunch (usually potluck) following the worship service on the last Sunday of the month except for July & August.
Currently, our ‘one excellent mission’ is Meals That Heal. Meals are prepared at the church and are delivered to new mothers, shut-ins, and anyone who is temporarily unable to prepare their own.
We host community members of our town through regular fundraisers including a turkey supper in November, roast beef supper in March, spaghetti supper in January, rummage and bake sales spring and fall, and the sale of Memorial angel for the Advent tree. Christmas cakes and puddings are prepared in the church kitchen by women for the annual community craft and Bake Sale held during the Town’s annual Santa Claus Parade.
We actively support the Canyon Church Camp in Waterton National Park. Canyon Church Camps offers great activities including spiritual & nature classes, crafts, and hikes nurturing both body and mind of its campers.
The contributions made to our church, whether time, talent, or resources are an integral part of what keeps us alive and well. Being actively involved creates new friendships, reinforces old ones, and builds a foundation for the fellowship we enjoy.
We are confident that, with God’s guiding hand, we will enjoy a thriving and progressive future just as we’ve enjoyed our long history here in Fort Macleod.

Vocation and Calling:
Ordained to the Ministry of Word, Sacrament, and Pastoral Care by Seoul-North Presbytery of
the Presbyterian Church of the Republic of Korea (Gi-Jang PROK),
November 24th, 2015.
Admitted to the Order of ministry in the United Church of Canada by Alberta & Northwest
Conference, May 13th, 2017.
“One of the best qualities of Trinity United Church is welcoming. Jesus describes the
kingdom of God as a banquet where invitations keep extending beyond the original
guest list. We welcome you in the love of Jesus, no matter who you are. How could we
block you when God calls you in love! We dream that everyone feels God’s presence as
they visit our church.
Trinity United exists for the community. We know our faith is manifested when we love,
care and serve. This is what Jesus did for us.”
“I originally came from South Korea before marrying my husband and moving to Canada.
Prior to being admitted to the Order of Ministry within the United Church of Canada, I was an
ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church in the Republic of Korea and bring this identity
to my ministry within the United Church, particularly skills in Christian education and
congregational growth.
One of my strong gifts for ministry is music. I love music, especially I love singing. I grew up
participating in the children and then youth choirs in church. As well, I was a soloist in my
university choir for four years. I am grateful to God for giving me this wonderful gift and use it
for God’s purposes.”
“Children’s ministry is one of my passions. In my previous ministry, I coordinated the
Vacation
Bible School (VBS) and Advent Adventure for children in town. Also, I have created, with other
music leaders in the United Church, as series of YouTube Children Dance videos, so that
children can joyfully praise the wonderful God with their voices and motions. My other
passions in ministry are worship and pastoral care. My goal is to create vibrant and
inspirational Sunday worship services with all.”
